As part of the 56th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the Armenian International Women's Association will sponsor an event titled "Rural Women: Imagery & Empowerment," and featuring illustrated presentations by Sara Anjargolian, a photographer and attorney in Los Angeles who has documented the plight of the extreme poor in Armenia; and Ana Cristina Schirinian, who is special assistant to Argentine Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian, who, among other projects, has been involved in agricultural projects in Armenia's Armavir province. The workshop will take place in the Drew Room on the first floor of the Church Center across the street from the United Nations building in New York from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. It is open to the public free of charge. Word Up Community Bookstore (4157 Broadway at 176th Street; Washington Heights, NYC 10033; Subway: A Train to 175 St. or 1 Train to 181 St.) hosts a presentation of the book Queered: What's To Be Done With XCentric Art with Shushan Avagyan and Nancy Agabian and a video by Arpi Adamyan. This is a recently published book by Queering Yerevan, a collective of queer women artists and writers from Armenia and its diaspora.

For the 27th year, Armenian Americans and their supporters will gather in Times Square (Broadway between 43rd and 44th Streets) to commemorate the first genocide of the 20th Century: The Armenian Genocide (1915-23). The theme of the Commemoration is "Turkey is Guilty of Genocide; Denying the Undeniable is a Crime". The 97th commemoration is organized by the Mid-Atlantic chapters of Knights & Daughters of Vartan and co-sponsored by Armenian General Benevolent Union, Armenian Assembly of America, Armenian National Committee of America, Armenian Council of America and ADL-Ramgavars. Participating Organizations: Diocese and Prelacy of the Armenian Church, Armenian Missionary Association of America, Armenian Presbyterian Church, Armenian Evangelical Church, Armenian Catholic Eparchy for US and Canada, Mid-Atlantic ACYOA, AYF, and Armenian Youth Organizations.
